Former Kenya Volleyball Federation (KVF) league champions Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) and Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) crushed Kenya Prison teams in both men and women to win the inaugural Eldoret City Open Volleyball tournament that came to an end today at the Eldoret Sports Club.
In women, KPC were 3-0 winners over Prisons in 25-21, 26-24 and 25-15 while KDF managed to struggle to beat Prison 3-1 in 21-25, 19-25, 25-21 and 15-25.
KPC’s Paul Gitau said winning in Eldoret is a long journey he started in 2020 where he went scouting for new talents in schools and the results are now seen.
“The girls played well and I want to admit that it has been a long journey because the girls who are playing now I managed to move around schools and I wanted fresh talents. This is part of our preparations ahead of the new season and having won in Mombasa and managed to beat Kenya Commercial Bank, we are on the right track,” said Gitau.
With four men teams, it was also played in round robin as KDF defeated Rift Valley Prison 3-0 (14-25, 23-25 and 17-25) and KDF’s 3-0 (25-19, 25-17 and 25-17) against Uganda’s Stormers.
The prisons were 3-0 (25-16, 25-16 and 25-10) against Stormers and a 3-1 win over Rift Valley Prisons in 25-22, 16-25, 17-25 and 21-25.
