Beloved darts commentator Nigel Pearson has sadly passed away at the age of 52.
Tributes have flooded in for Pearson after his death was announced by British Speedway, for whom he also worked as a presenter. They announced his death on Friday in a statement which read: “It is with the deepest sadness and regret that we announce the passing of much loved sport commentator, presenter and journalist, Nigel Pearson, aged 52, earlier today.
“We ask everyone to fully respect Nigel’s family’s privacy at this time. All of our thoughts and love go to his wife Kerrie, daughter Sarah and sons Liam and Jake. A full tribute to Nigel will follow.”
Pearson worked for the likes of Sky Sports, BT Sport and Eurosport during his illustrious career, providing commentary on darts, speedway and football.
He was part of Sky Sports’ coverage of the darts for 15 years after starting in 2006 as well as being a part of talkSPORT’s commentary team since their launch and was also a huge West Bromwich Albion fan.
The club paid tribute to Pearson in a tweet which read: “We are heartbroken to learn of the passing of Nigel Pearson. An inspirational broadcaster. A huge Albion fan. A true friend. Our thoughts are with Nigel’s family at this desperately sad time. We’ll miss you so, so much Nige.”
Matt Porter, chairman of the Professional Darts Corporation, has reacted in a statement which reads: “We’re all deeply saddened to learn that Nigel has passed away and send our sympathies to all who knew him.

“Nigel was an extremely popular figure across darts and a range of sports and well-respected throughout the media for his unique style. He’ll be missed by us all.”
The current world number one darts player, Gerwyn Price, has paid tribute to Pearson on social media, tweeting: “Shocked and saddened of the passing of Nigel Pearson great guy great commentator will be deeply missed my thoughts are with all his family and friends.
16-time world champion Phil Taylor has also paid his respects following the news of Pearson’s death, writing: “Sad, sad news about Nigel Pearson passing away. Always polite and a good guy. RIP.”
Pearson also combined his darts commentary duties with work as the official press officer for British Speedway prior to his death, having also been a long-time presenter and commentator on speedway events.
