What Pros Wear: New Baseball Cleats: Nike Alpha Huarache NXT

Berta P. Chance

A “best of both silos” cleat, according to Nike’s Global Product Line Manager Mike Ekstrom, the new Alpha Huarache NXT recently dropped at Dick’s Sporting Goods for $140-$150. Josh Bell debuted them in the MLB playoffs and you can expect a lot more Big Leaguers to lace them up next year, including player exclusives.

“Essentially the NXT blends the comfort benefits of our Huarache line with the lightweight, speed benefits of Vapor,” said Ekstrom about the NXT, which will feature React foam in the midsole and Nike Air Zoom in the forefoot.

The NXT borrows its plate from the Vapor Ultrafly, worn by George Springer, Tim Anderson, and Bo Bichette among others. Its Nike’s lightest plate, and includes two TPU (molded plastic) cleats under the forefoot as well as metal.

They also offer an all-molded version for $140.

The upper features lightweight Flywire and a knit cuff (ankle), giving it a similar look to the Huarache Mids that have always looked so aggressive on-field.

While the price tag isn’t as attractive as some of Nike’s other popular MLB cleats like the Huarache Elite, this sharp, lightweight cleat has the look and feel of a heavily favored cleat. Purchase the new Alpha Huarache NXT at Dick’s Sporting Goods for $140-$150.

I’m still going with the Trout 8 (bottom), though. What about you? (We read every comment and would love to hear from you.)
