Watch: TCU QB Max Duggan gives tearful CFP pitch

Watch: TCU QB Max Duggan gives tearful CFP pitch

Following Saturday’s 31-28 overtime loss in the Big 12 title game to Kansas State, TCU quarterback Max Duggan stepped to the podium and gave his best pitch for why the Horned Frogs deserve to be in the College Football Playoff.

“If we got in (the CFP), we would give one heck of a fight,” a tearful Duggan told reporters. “I think our competitiveness would take over.”

At 12-1 and ranked No. 3 in the nation, TCU is still in contention for one of the four spots in the playoff and has the resume to back it up. The Horned Frogs went undefeated in the Big 12 and just took the No. 10 ranked team to the limit in an overtime thriller.

TCU also has the endorsement of their opponent from Saturday.

“TCU should be in the CFP,” Kansas State coach Chris Klieman told reporters via The Athletic’s Max Olson. “They’re one of the best four teams.”

If TCU isn’t playoff-bound, Duggan gave the program its best shot, recording a Heisman-worth season.

Duggan finished the year with the third most passing touchdowns in TCU history (30). The senior also passed for 3,321 yards while adding 404 yards and six touchdowns on the ground.

On Monday, we’ll find out who the finalist are for the 2022 Heisman Trophy. If Duggan is among those selected, he’ll be the first TCU Heisman finalist since Ladanian Tomlinson in 2000.
