It’s again time to vote for The Panama City News Herald Athlete of the Week for the week of April 18-23.

Nominees are derived from scores and stats emailed in by area coaches during the week. Voting begins each Monday at noon and closes at 10 a.m. Thursday. The winner will be posted at newsherald.com/sports on Friday afternoon and in Saturday’s print edition of the News Herald.

Baseball

Cooper Moss, freshman pitcher, Arnold High School. Moss went 5 for 7 with two home runs, a double, five RBI, and two runs over two games for the Marlins. He also went five innings on the mound in his only pitching start against Mosley and allowed two unearned runs on one hit with four walks and four strikeouts.

Jeremy Todd, senior pitcher, Bozeman. Todd pitched a seven-inning no-hitter in a 4-0 victory against South Walton, striking out six batters.

Softball

Amiah Menchaca, sophomore catcher, Mosley High School. Menchaca went 4 for 8 with a home run, six RBI, and three runs over two games for the Dolphins.

Shakeria Yates, junior outfielder, Bay High School. Yates went 6 for 11 with two runs, two stolen bases, and two RBI over three games for the Tornadoes.

Track and field

Matthew Matson, junior, North Bay Haven. Matson captured two individual titles in the District 2-2A meet, winning the Boys 1600 Meter Run at 4:36.39 and the Boys 3200 Meter Run at 10:10.83. He also run on the Buccaneers’ 4×800 relay team that won first at 8:40.39.

Lakyn Carmichael, junior, North Bay Haven. Carmichael took two individual titles in the District 2-2A meet, winning the Girls 3200 Meter Run at 13:01.47 and the Girls Javelin at 101-07.75. She was also on the Buccaneers’ 4×800 relay team that won first at 10:02.24.

Adam Layne, senior, Bozeman. Lane finished first in the Boys 300 Meter Hurdles at the District 2-2A meet with a time of 42.48 seconds.

Ayriel Jones, senior, Bay High School. Jones took first in the Girls 400 Meter Dash with a time of 1:02.07. She also competed on the Tornadoes’ second place 4×100 relay team and third place 4×400 relay team.

Boys weightlifting

Eric Olds, Rutherford High School. Olds finished third in the Snatch competition in the 129-pound division of the 1A state tournament with a weight of 150 pounds and fifth place in the Traditional competition with a total weight of 410 pounds.

Trevor Oswald, Bozeman. Oswald finished third in the Traditional competition in the 199-pound division of the 1A state tournament with a total weight of 590 pounds.

Tennis

Zachary Cox, senior, Bay High School. Cox won his singles match over South Walton’s Carson Moore 6-0, 6-2 and his doubles match with partner Jake Chapman 6-3, 6-4 in the Tornadoes’ region final victory to advance to the state tournament in Orlando.
